Very Humid, Light Wind, Cyclists Sighted, 200 Mile Week Barely
Hoping to see other cyclists during today’s bike ride I got out the door and rolling at 7:55 AM. Before the ride I needed 35 miles to reach 200 for the week. I chose my usual Saturday route, “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” which usually is not that many miles. Riding my Cervelo Caledonia I added a few extra side streets and by the 10:31 AM I finished with 34.9 miles, enough to put the week at 200.3 miles. Not biking on Monday put me behind but three 40+ mile days got me close. June totals 601.42 miles leaving 199 to reach my 800 mile goal. I plan on biking tomorrow to increase the week’s total miles.
10 times I rode this route in 2022. Today was the longest distance by almost a mile. All but one of the rides has been on my Cervelo bike. The average speed, heart rate, and average power of the 10 rides is close as is the pace.
I saw quite a few other cyclists starting on Kings River Drive with most of them on Fairlake Lane and Old Atascocita Road. I caught many of them in the video. Surprisingly the GoPro did not freeze a single time during the ride.
By riding early in the day I again avoided the hottest weather but not the most humid part of the day. When I finished my gloves were soaked with sweat, my Texbiker jersey was dripping and my shorts felt like i just got out of the pool. Emptying the CamelBak back home a few ice cubes were left meaning I had cool water for the whole ride. Weather conditions: start 78 (humidity 94%, dew point 76), mostly cloudy, wind N 0 mph; finish 86 (humidity 70%, dew point 75), mostly cloudy, wind variable 4 mph. Not much wind to contend with during the bike ride.
Checking the AXS.SRAM.com ride report the data shows a total moving time of 2:32:55 with a total time of 2:36:33. I pedaled the 35×13 gears the most with 1:38:05 riding 23.3 miles. I shifted the RD only 19 times. I think the flat route and light wind allowed me to stay in the 35×13 gears more.
Strava told me I am the Local Legend on Kings Crossing North for the last 90 days with 38 rides on this segment. I’m not the fastest on this segment which has 2 stop sign intersections. The fastest person is Craig Prejean at 53 seconds compared to my 1:58.
