Surprising Start Time. Beat Possible 100 Degree Heat. Fellow Cyclists On Route
I surprised myself starting today’s bike ride at 7:54 AM. I didn’t give in to watching any bike races as I ate breakfast which kept focused on getting out the door before 8 AM. My Lynskey Helix bike has the new 46×33 crankset, new FD and chain so I rode it on today’s ride. It performed great and the gearing is closer to what my Cervelo Caledonia runs. I finished the ride at 10:29 AM.
Since it’s Saturday I rode my usual “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route hoping to see some other cyclists which I did. 9 times I’ve rode this route in 2022 but this is the first time on the Lynskey Helix which is up 145 miles since I received it. Today’s ride covered 33.37 miles and now my week’s total is 222.88 making this the 3rd week in a row with 200+ miles. June biking totals 382.9 miles. My goal for June is 800 miles.
I wasn’t sure how I would ride through the FM 1960 construction at Atascocita Shores Drive. When I got there it had not changed from Thursday when I rode through the area. Turning left onto FM 1960 I stayed left of the barriers on the right shoulder. They didn’t seem to go as far from the previous lane arrangement and I moved onto the right shoulder to ride over the lake. On the way back the closed lanes to the right of the barrels and barriers was clear to the traffic light and turned left when the light changed to ride through Walden. All of this will probably change when the work begins.
Looking at the AXS.SRAM.com ride report, I made 21 RD shifts during the total moving time of 2:28:47 and no FD shifts. I used the 33×13 gears for 1:38:27 (or 23.3 miles) of the ride.
Weather at the start and finish: start 82 (humidity 86%, dew point 77), mostly cloudy, wind SW 7 mph; finish 90 (humidity 66%, dew point 77), partly cloudy, wind SW 9 mph gusts 21 mph. It might hit 100 degrees this afternoon. A good reason to get an early start.
Before reaching Walden I stopped at Waterhaven and took these photos.
