San Antonio cruises to the middle on ranking of bike-friendly cities

A new survey on bikeability ranks San Antonio No. 30 in a list of the top 50 cities in the U.S.
San Antonio has a bikeability score of 45. It has 0.2 percent of workers who commute by bicycle compared to the average city’s 0.5 percent, with 0.7 bike shops per 100,000 people and 0.8 percent bike trails per 100,000 people.
The study was released by Clever, a real estate data company, and analyzed data from the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. National Centers for Environmental Information, Walk Score, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, Vision Zero Network, Google Trends, and Yelp.

ohn "Jack" Burton Kendrick died in the home he loved in Fredericksburg, Texas, May 28, 2022. He was born in Denton, Texas on June 22, 1942, to Murray and Lura Kendrick. "Jack," as everyone called him, had a happy childhood growing up in Denton with his sister Karen, surrounded by the creative energy that comes from being raised by parents who were immersed in an artistic community.
He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1965, and then moved to New York City where he was a copywriter for the Ted Bates advertising agency. He was a New York ad-man during the heyday of the original "Madmen" era. His most remembered advertising creation from this time was the slogan "How Do You Spell Relief? R-O-L-A-I-D-S." …
… Jack loved the outdoors, and was an avid hiker and backpacker, but he loved being on his bicycle most of all. At one point he was often putting in over a hundred miles a week on his custom-made steel road bike. He was proud to have an unbroken 37-year record of participating in the annual "Hotter than Hell 100" August ride in Wichita Falls, Texas. A lifelong copywriter, he loved any and all word games and puzzles, especially his beloved New York Times crossword.
