April Wind Gusts Prevail. Road Construction Updates
I wasn’t going to wear a new bike jersey on today’s bike ride but when I took the old jersey out of the closet I changed my mind. The old one looked dated and in fact it has a date on as part of the graphic. I dropped it on the donate pile in my closet and opened the Fire Lord Primal jersey bag. A new jersey bike ride today.
With that out of the way I dressed for the ride. Since its Thursday the route should go to the south and east. To move closer to a 200+ mile week I chose my “Stroker Road – Huffman” route with the typical distance around 41 miles. Today I rode some side streets in Kingwood Greens as I headed south for the first time. I started the ride at 11:01 AM and finished at 2:37 PM and biked 43.56 miles. Now my week totals 149 miles. Today was the 2nd ride on this route in 2022. The previous ride reversed the order of some roads going to Huffman and then to Stroker Road versus today riding to Stroker Road and then Huffman. The route allowed me to check the road construction progress in two areas in the video.
April wind gusts still prevail. Weather for the bike ride: start 77 (humidity 72%, dew point 67), mostly cloudy, wind S 7 mph gusts 17 mph; finish 82 (humidity 65%, dew point 69), partly cloudy, wind SE 14 mph gusts 22 mph. My legs weren’t the best riding into the wind. I worked to keep my speed at 13 mph or higher but they struggled.
The AXS.SRAM.com ride report data surprised me with the most riding time in the 35×13 gears despite the wind gusts and exposure east of FM 2100. The overall riding time was 3:10:42 and I rode 1:38:26 using 35×13 and 1:13:50 using 35×15. Looking at the distance in each of those gears 35×13 was 24.1 miles and 35×15 was 15.2 miles. I was an active gear changer with 42 RD shifts, 0.96 shifts per mile.
