Video: Central Texas dad trains for 600 mile bike tour to raise awareness for organ donation
By Megan Vanselow | kwtx.com
BELTON, Texas (KWTX) – On May 7, Chance Sebek will join eleven other bikers to ride 600 miles through Texas, honoring transplant donors, recipients and those on the waiting list with the Lone Star Circle of Life Bike Tour.
“I was very fortunate to apply and be selected to be a rider in the tour,” Sebek said.
He says he got into cycling during the pandemic, but has had an interest in raising awareness for organ donation for the last 12 years, when it saved his daughters life.
“She had a liver transplant when she was 5 1/2 months old and she has been doing great ever since,” his wife Megan explained. …
Texas’ first ski-lift bike park takes mountain bike adventures to new heights in the Hill Country
By Celestina Blok | dallas.culturemap.com
At Spider Mountain Bike Park in Burnet, what goes up must come down.
Located on Lake Buchanan about an hour northwest of Austin in the Hill Country, the attraction is the only year-round ski-lift bike park in the U.S. (In fact, it’s the only place in Texas with a ski-lift, period.) Opened just before the pandemic, in 2019, the park draws mountain bikers from across the country for its year-round access to downhill, gravity-fueled biking terrain.
Here bikers (and their bikes) ride a chairlift called the Texas Eagle up 350 feet to the mountain’s peak, where they can choose from one of 10 different bike trails — from beginner to expert — to cruise back down.
“To have a chairlift in the middle of the Hill Country is really exciting whether you’re a …

That’s how long it has been since she promised herself to tackle Bike MS: Texas MS 150, a two-day bike ride that is a major fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Adewale planned to compete, but COVID-19 canceled the 2020 event, and rain shut out the 2021 ride.
This is her year, she said. …

Improvements from Bonnie Road to West 35th Street

Austin Public Works and Austin Transportation have partnered to complete a transformational sidewalk project on Exposition Boulevard this month. The new improvements extend from Bonnie Road to West 35th?Street and include new and repaired sidewalks, curb ramps, pedestrian crossings, and intersection safety improvements. This work completes a fully ADA-accessible route on either side of Exposition Boulevard from Lake Austin Boulevard all the way to West 35th Street. The improvements also create a safer route for students to walk or bike to nearby Casis Elementary School and O. Henry Middle School and safer access for everyone to neighborhood day care centers, libraries, churches, stores, and parks.
“Every child should be able to walk or bike to school safely,” said Mayor Pro Tem Alison Alter of Council District 10, where these safety and mobility improvements are located. “While these safe routes are created for …
Wounded warriors cycle into Killeen auto dealership
By Thaddeus Imerman | kdhnews.com
With the clanging of nearly a dozen cow bells and a police escort to aid them in, several wounded warriors and first responders rode their bicycles into the parking lot of Cleo Bay Subaru in Killeen on Wednesday afternoon. The riders were taking part in the six-day Ride 2 Recovery Challenge, organized by Project Hero, that spans 500 miles.
Officials from the dealership on East Stan Schlueter Loop organized a lunch for the riders to partake in, which is something it has done since 2016, save for two years the ride did not take place because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s one of the most rewarding things that we get to do as an organization,” said Michele Marquez, the assistant controller of Cleo Bay Subaru. “You’re looking at people that are wounded warriors and first …
