Why Can’t All Bike Rides Be Chamber of Commerce Weather
I paused watching the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya on GCN+ to get ready for today’s bike ride. The temperature warmed up nicely with lots of sunshine. As I got ready I thought about ways to rearrange today’s route but settled on the typical Saturday “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route. I rolled away at 10:54 AM on the Cervelo Caledonia. I didn’t expect to see any other cyclists with the late start but I saw three starting on West Lake Houston Parkway and later on Old Atascocita Road. Chamber of Commerce weather ruled for this ride. Light wind, 80’s, and lots of sunshine by the time I finished at 1:28 PM.
Surprisingly this was only the second time riding the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route in 2022. The other ride was March 5th.
In the video I said the ride would be 31 to 32 miles long but it turned out to be 33.5 miles. This pushed the week’s total to 195.97 miles. Looks like a 200+ mile week with Sunday’s bike ride. March is up to 761.64 miles, 617 of those on the road. My 650 mile goal for March is getting closer.
When I made the turn onto Fairlake Lane the construction crews were gone and nice smooth asphalt awaited the Cervelo’s tires. They just need to add the center stripes. I can’t remember when this road surface was better. The video shows how it looks. There is one hump that didn’t get ground down before the asphalt was applied. Riding south through the “S” curve near the mailbox of the first house on the right is where the little hump is. Not sure why that happened.
Looking at the AXS.SRAM.com ride information I made 37 RD changes. The most time was spent in the 35×15 gear combination at 1:18:18. Next was the 35×13 at 46:57. I thought it was reversed. Some ride I need to change the front chainring just to see if it works.
After several bike rides in strong wind this week it was good to experience a light wind ride. Weather conditions: start 75 ( humidity 56%, dew point 59), clear, wind S 6 mph: finish 83 (humidity 27%, dew point 46), clear, wind SW 6 mph. I wore one of the polyester long sleeve T-shirts under my short sleeve Texbiker jerseys. A good combination comfort wise. The long sleeves provided some sun protection.
