Another layover day in Fredericksburg Texas: Still too cold for me!
Friday February 25, 2022 I woke up with every intention of hitting the road for a short 30 miles but it was so darn cold I wasn’t in the mood. I was invited to breakfast with Opie, Brett and Dale. Brett owns the hotel I am staying in. They took me to a great breakfast spot and I had a fantastic meal. Thanks again Brett. After breakfast, Opie and I went to load up a deer that Opie shot the day before. We took the deer to his house so he could hang it for a while before it was time for butchering. While I was at his house, I met his lovely wife and she made us some warm hot chocolate which helped since it was very cold outside. On the way back to …
Fredericksburg Texas to Kerrville Texas. 37 miles. 1483 ft of gain: Still cold but I got to get moving.
Saturday February 26, 2022, 37 miles (60 km) – Total so far: 118 miles (190 km) It was cold this morning but I was bound and determined to get moving. The forecast called for upper 30° weather with occasional mist. That seems doable. I slept a long time last night. I think I’m still recovering from the marathon. At about 730 I went up and had coffee in the lobby with Opie and some other guests. Opie mentioned he shot another deer last night and could use some help loading it into the pick up. I wasn’t in a hurry to get started in the cold weather so I went with him and we got it into his pick up. After Opie dropped me back off at the hotel, Ithanked him for all the hospitality. It’s been three cold days in Fredericksburg but the Texas hospitality has been very warm. I highly recommend visiting the Peach Tree Inn if you are ever in Fredericksburg There was a …

Johnson City, TX
Saturday February 26, 2022, 62 km (39 miles) – Total so far: 1,919 km (1,192 miles) It was the last of the bad weather today. Tomorrow I ride to Austin and it is supposed to be sunny and much warmer.
It drizzled the whole ride and it was just above freezing. Lots of ups and downs again today. A generally quiet road passing by many ranches. I saw lots of deer and occasionally farm animals.
When I got to town, I headed to the rv park (Roadrunner RV), hoping to get the one cabin. No luck, so in the tent I go.
Overcast, light drizzle, 3c
Austin, TX
Sunday February 27, 2022, 71 km (44 miles) – Total so far: 1,990 km (1,237 miles) A very hilly ride to Austin via the back roads. It was sunny and chilly in the morning and it turned warmer by mid afternoon. Mostly passed by ranches, wineries, and small brew places. As I got closer to Austin, the traffic picked up.
Staying in a hotel on the west side.

We had REI come out during the week to help with drainage and shaping. Today we had a group of volunteers come together to endure the weather. We got to build up the new jump and clear out the remaining line. Thank all for the efforts to make the trail come to life! ???????? pic.twitter.com/8SgPEWGiCC
