Stage 4 Tour de Zwift Group B, Makuri Islands Chain Chomper Romping Up Climbs
Today I rode another route in stage 4 of the Tour de Zwift but this time in Group B. The ride moved to the Makuri Islands on the Chain Chomper. The distance covered 10.02 miles including a 1.5 mile lead-in. The chomper part came from climbing 617 feet. Until the 5 mile marker the climbing was modest but after that it kicked in. Climbing and dust combined to make for a dusty ride (virtual dust). I changed from my MTB to the Cannondale in my garage. I need to see if I can buy a gravel bike. This was my first time on the Chain Chomper though I think I’ve been on parts of it on other routes. Group B is quick but I rode with a group though the group changed along the way. 734 riders registered but I didn’t see that many on the nearby riders list which topped out at 699. The climbing hit 13% for a short time with several 10% and 11% places. I shifted down to lower gears for those.
Zwiftpower.com showed 334 in Group B with me at 297. Group A had 507, Group C 181, and Group D 52. Overall total 1,074.
Zwiftinsider.com describes the route, “This route breaks up nicely into 5 sections of roughly equal length: the flat start, the Castle KOM, the Temple KOM, the Temple KOM descent, and the paved descent.”
Strava results: PR on Temple KOM from Castle Side (10:52) and PR on Castle KOM (7:21).
