Excruciation Exam – Single Speed – first of two
Frank Cano | www.strava.com
It wasn’t pretty…. Single speed at a race that mixes punch MTB climbs and lots of gravel and asphalt…. 95% not in the right gear, ever.
Warda full lap was first. Kept pacing on target and road all the climbs. Went down in the only muddy spot on the whole course when my front tire slipped out. Finished up and got on the road and joined a group of 4, 2 50+ and 1 60+.
Burned a lot of matches trying to hang on to geared guys on the way over. Every time the speed got over 20, it was spin@130-coast-spin@130-coast. I’d put my dropper on and on the downhills would drop it and tuck in super tight and pass them up. That lasted 10mi before I pulled the plug and dropped back.
At RHR, much of the route was all loose bumpy fresh cut trail. Zero flow. With the fog, the roots and rocks were slippery and I spun out on several climbs and had to walk.
Soloed the ride back for a time of 4:47.
Haven’t figured out yet if this is epic or epicly dumb. For certain though that Ive given my stand and stomp and sit and spin training a boost!
Actually, I’ve Bicycled About 45,000 Miles in 17 Years
A Dude Abikes | adudeabikes.com
The week began slowly. I only managed to average about 12 miles a day when I’m meant to do 15. For 2022, I haven’t set any new goals or made any New Years resolutions. I’m just sort of coasting on auto-pilot from last year. After 5,555.55 miles in 2021, and 6,666.66 in 2020, and riding every day for over 800 days in a row, I have now passed 32,000 miles in just over six years on Strava*. (I started in very late December 2015 and it took five days of 2022 to hit that number, so call it six years and two weeks). That got me to thinking about what I did pre-Strava. The actual total mileage I estimate is much higher. Actually, I’ve bicycled about 45,000 miles in 17 years. (As for whatever …
