Longing For Summer, Buster Brown Up Ended
After three days of not biking on the road the weather warmed up enough for me to get out and ride. I chose my “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route starting at 11:26 AM. I varied the route slight when I reach FM 1314 in Porter. Rather than continuing north on the service road I turned right onto FM 1314. At Loop 494 I turned left and followed it all the way to New Caney. I don’t think it made much difference in the mileage as I ended with 35.5 miles. Missing the 3 days meant I will not reach my 360 mile goal for November but if bike tomorrow I should be over 300 miles. With today’s ride November totals 278.1 road miles. I count Zwift miles separately. I rode my Canyon Endurace bike. 17 times I rode today’s route this year.
Weather conditions: start 64 (humidity 63%, dew point 52), clear, wind calm; finish 69 (humidity 51%, dew point 50), clear, wind calm. I delayed the start waiting for the temperature to get above 60. The forecast called for a high of 70 but I bundled up for the start willing to sweat some if it warmed up. I wore shorts, leg warmers, a long sleeve thermal jersey, windbreaker jacket, and full finger gloves. I felt comfortable and didn’t sweat too much. Longing for summer weather. I finished the ride at 2:07 PM.
Along Loop 494 near the railroad crossing across from the Dollar General store I saw a bunch of cars and trucks stopped. Then I saw a Buster Brown Propane truck laying on its side with 2 big heavy duty wreckers beside it. There may have been other vehicles involved but I couldn’t tell because of the stopped vehicles. I don’t know if a train was involved.
It felt good to ride and my well rested legs didn’t complain thanks to the light breeze.
