Returned To The Scene of The Crime
Today’s bike ride returned to the scene of the crime, Saturday’s flat tire on the Lake Houston causeway. I am happy to report the ride across the lake went without incident. I began the bike ride at 11:37 AM after waiting for the temperature to go up a few degrees. The route was different from Saturday just in the order I rode the streets. The route today was “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” and I biked 33.4 miles. My November miles stand at 204.99, still short of my 360 mile goal but getting closer. This is a road mile goal and the month is getting shorter. Will I make my goal? The weather for Friday and Saturday may be too cold for a road ride so I may switch to Zwift for the first time since early spring. I have been keeping up on the Zwift updates during my absence and ready to check them out.
When I got up this morning the temperature was in the low 40’s but as the sun moved higher the temperature did too. I bundled up for the ride wearing shorts, leg warmers, a long sleeve thermal jersey, and a windbreaker jacket. The wind was milder than yesterday and while the weather conditions didn’t register any wind I still hit a headwind from the SE and it had a chill to it. Weather conditions: start 65 (humidity 44%, dew point 43), mostly clear, wind calm; finish 68 (humidity 48%, dew point 47), partly cloudy, wind calm.
With the late start I thought I might see the Sunset Limited Amtrak train near Huffman but I didn’t. I was on that train November 2nd on my way to New Orleans and New York City. The returning Sunset Limited takes a different route back into Houston through Crosby.
Before the ride I moved my Lynskey R300 bike from where I usually park it in the breakfast area. I could see the ICAN Alpha 50 Disc wheels better and I think it makes the bike look sharp. I measured the rim’s on my Canyon Endurace to compare them to the Lynskey and the Canyon’s are 10mm less at 40mm.
