Rain Departed, No Need To Cloud Watch, Just Blue Sky Looking
This week is off to a better start than last week. The rain clouds departed, the humidity is lower and so is the dew point. All of these make for very nice biking weather, a pleasure to be out biking. I didn’t get out the door very early with wheels down at 11:01 AM. Riding north into a headwind to SH 242 was not easy but making the u-turn at SH 242 switched to a nice tailwind all the way back to Kingwood for the 1:58 PM finish. The route was “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” and I biked 37.00 miles putting one day ahead of the pace to reach to my 625 mile goal. I made up for the rain out last Friday. I need to average 20.26 miles per day to reach the goal and I am averaging 24.84 miles. So far in 2021 I biked this route 8 times, less than 1 time per month.
The added GoPro Media Mod I used to video today’s bike ride did better on the audio. This makes the GoPro bulkier but it still fit in my jersey pocket. I used a shoestring as a lanyard to hold onto the camera when it wasn’t in the jersey pocket. I wish there was something for the handlebar that holds the camera until I need it; a Velcro patch with extra grip, maybe.
Big change in the weather. No need to watch the clouds for approaching rain. with the lower humidity and dew point I didn’t sweat so much despite the temperature being in the 80’s. The wind strengthened while I rode. I didn’t realize the gusts were so strong. Maybe that’s why the tailwind helped. Weather summary: start 80 (67% humidity, 68 dew point), partly cloudy, wind NE 4 mph; finish 85 (45% humidity, 62 dew point), partly cloudy, wind N 13 mph gusts 21 mph.
The map shows the route going north to SH 242 into the headwind. The u-turn at SH 242 changed to a tailwind. Construction at SH 242 seems to moving at a snail’s pace. I couldn’t see much difference from my last ride on August 30th.
