A Price To Pay For That Hour
There was a price for starting today’s bike ride at 10:04 AM, an hour later than yesterday. I rode away on my Canyon Endurace bike under a partly cloudy sky and 87 degrees. I returned to ride a route variation I haven’t done since 8/9/2019, “Fairlake Lane – May Center – Smith Road”. For some reason during that time period I didn’t ride the Fairlake Lane – Old Atascocita Road – FM 2100 loop but I added them back into today’s bike ride. With these streets the distance bumped up to 42.34 miles, a couple miles longer than when I didn’t include them.
The partly cloudy sky began to change to mostly cloudy with darker clouds to the south. I thought the dark clouds were far enough south to not be a threat but as I approached FM 2100 on Old Atascocita Road rain drops started. They stayed with me as I made the left turn onto FM 2100 and all the way to the railroad tracks at FM 1960. Riding east on FM 1960 the rain looked like it was going to leave me alone but I was deluded. The rain returned and maybe with sleet as it stung when it hit my arms. The temperature dropped accentuating the cool rain. It was too heavy which was good since there was no place to shelter. At the Liberty county line the rain increased and I made the u-turn sooner than usual. I wondered if I had started at 9:04 AM like yesterday if I would’ve beat the rain. That was the price for the hour delay.
I stuck to my route plan and the roads started to turn dry as I rode passed Hargrave High School on the way to May Community Center. A few rain drops hit me as I rode west on Wolf Road. They gave up about halfway to FM 2100. From that point all the way back into Kingwood the roads were dry. In Kingwood I saw signs of rain but the streets were mostly dry.
Bike rides into Liberty County lately have caught me in rain. Maybe I need to pack a rain jacket on my next ride there.
