New Shorts, New Ride Route, Not As Early As I Planned
I tried to get today’s bike ride started before 9 AM but little things got in the way. Thinking of how to add some variety to today’s route I changed the streets to ride back into Kingwood. I rode my “New Caney – Roman Forest – Valley Ranch” route but returned to Kingwood through Forest Cove renaming the route to “New Caney – Roman Forest – Valley Ranch – Forest Cove”. As far as I can find this is the first time to ride this combination of roads. I wasn’t sure how long the bike ride would be guessing 41 to 45 miles, it came in at 42.59 miles. I rode my Lynskey R300 bike with wheels down at 9:04 AM and finishing at 12:14 PM. Again I didn’t watch stage 3 of the Vuelta a España before starting the bike ride to help with starting earlier. My plan was to watch when I got home but during the bike ride I got a text message from my ISP (SuddenLink) alerting me that the internet was out.
The route through Forest Cove is the same as my last couple of returns from biking the Spring Creek Greenway. I’m starting to figure out most of the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway turns and streets connections. Another route variation was riding north on Loop 494 from Porter to New Caney. Usually I cut over to Loop 494 on Community Drive.
I added a new pair of Primal Prisma Obsidian bike shorts to my fleet of bike shorts on today’s bike ride. Now all of my biking shorts are Primal Prisma with various colors. I like the fit and ride comfort better than the Bellwether Endurance Gel shorts I used to wear.
Light wind during the bike ride allowed me to not battle a headwind riding to Roman Forest and the return to Kingwood. Weather conditions: start 82 (76% humidity, 73.9 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind NW 4 mph; finish 87 (63% humidity, 72.8 dew point), partly cloudy, wind variable 4 mph. Starting at 9:04 AM put me miles along before the temperature start elevating. No rest stop today though I put a granola bar and cereal bar in my CamelBak pouch.
According to Strava I achieved a new top result.
