Bicycle shortage affecting Austin may continue for another year

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The bicycling industry experienced a big boom during the coronavirus pandemic.

College Station leaders discuss action on road improvements

College Station leaders are looking into pursuing road improvements, including separated bike lanes along George Bush Drive and a shared-use path project on Harvey Mitchell Parkway.
At their last meeting in May, council members voted unanimously to authorize grant applications to the Texas Department of Transportation for the projects. If received, the grant will cover 80% of construction costs. The city would be responsible for 20% of construction costs and 100% of design costs. The funds would be for fiscal year 2023 or 2024. 37-Year-Old Alex Cerda Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Crash on C. E. King Parkway in Harris County

Harris County, TX. (June 7, 2021)- Alex Cerda was killed in an auto-pedestrian crash on June 5, 2021 in Harris County, Texas. The accident occurred around 4:00 a.m. in the 8600 block of C. E. King Parkway. Deputies reported that Cerda was picking up his bicycle in the outside lane of the roadway when he was struck by an unknown dark-colored sedan. The driver of the sedan fled the scene of the crash. Cerda was pronounced dead at the scene. No further details have been provided at this time. The crash remains under investigation.

Waco (McLennan County) — City Council passed a resolution to accept state funding for a 2.5-mile bicycle and pedestrian project last week.
The resolution was an agreement with the state for $1.6 million towards the Cedar Ridge Sidewalks Project.
Another project, the $2.3 million MKT East Rails to Trails Connection is also expected to receive state funding. However, the city has yet to pass a resolution on it.
