El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — The pandemic has caused many people stuck at home to start looking elsewhere for adventure.
With El Paso having the largest urban park in the U.S. — Franklin Mountains State Park — mountain bikers from beginners to advanced have hit the trails. That means more biking traffic.
Manny Arellano, president of newly formed non-profit Mountain Action Sports El Paso, said he sees a need for more biking education within the city of El Paso.

Ride of Silence to be held May 19 in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas — The 2021 Ride of Silence will be held at 7 p.m., with pre-ride ceremonies beginning at 6:40 p.m., Wednesday, May 19 at McMurry University Center, 1400 Sayles Blvd.
According to a City of Abilene press release, the event is open to all cyclists and others who share the road with motorists.

High school students ride for mental health at Wellness on Wheels event

Rene Gonzalez stood in front of the pack of about 40 cyclists Saturday morning, feet in pedals, ready to lead a 12-mile ride across the East End.
Gonzalez created Wellness on Wheels in 2020 to improve student mental health at Milby High School, where he works as student support manager for Communities in Schools, a non-profit that provides students mental health services, dropout prevention and other resources.
