Day 2: Fort Hancock to Van Horn
Wednesday April 14, 2021, 76 miles (122 km) – Total so far: 127 miles (204 km) Well my long anticipated meal out last night did not work out very well. The restaurant was closed by the time I got there. So it turned out to be Mac and cheese and bacon bits with a Cliff bar chaser in the motel room.
The strangest thing happened yesterday. When I pulled into Fort Hancock I rode around behind the back of the post office to be in the shade and to take a break and figure out my next steps. I looked at the phone and it said it was 4 o’clock. I knew where I was at 12o’clock and it was only 18 miles away so it didn’t really make sense. It turns out that my phone advanced to central time even though The central time zone was 70 miles away. It made a …

We’ll see what tomorrow brings
I’m recording this on Friday the ninth can’t remember all that happened yesterday. I think I have some of this already recorded on crazy guy like a bike. It was a beautiful day wasn’t too hard of a ride home I had a flat tire first thing in the morning was the last want to leave the campsite at 8 o’clock your buddy else left at 7:30 sharp I caught up with them just before the rest stop or sag which there was a mile long ride up in 8% he’ll 8% grade he’ll that I was passing some folks going …
Day 28. April 9, will try to update this when I get to the hotel didn’t get to the hotel yesterday till 730 in the evening and went to bed about 830 so didn’t have time to update anything online
Friday April 9, 2021, 59 miles (95 km) – Total so far: 1,438 miles (2,314 km) We started off 730 and headed out to find some traffic find some hills find some more hills not always the good type of Rollinghills we can roll down one side and roll up the other side you lose about 5 miles an hour on these are very rough roads they shook my back light off of the bike bag a couple times it’s so rough
Oh yeah yesterday saw some zebras I forgot to mention that I just forgot to the SAG too. Today saw a dead wild Bore on the side of the road saw a bunch of deer along the side some running alive and many dead. Lots of vultures around to feast on dead flesh!
Go ahead it’s kind of crappy yeah yeah I’m waiting to find out when we’re going to go to the hotel I was like I could be doing stuff after dinner holy shit fuck excuse my language I’m sorry , yeah I could be sleeping on my bed so yeah I am too I’m recording this I’m dictating my journal here So we had the hills we had today were the very rough roads so it was hard to go to fast downhill to roll up the other because I was not familiar with the roads and they were shaded so at 40 miles an hour I didn’t wanna crash and burn and get all torn up and have to go to the …
Day 29 April 10 th Blanco to Lockhert the days are all running together now
Saturday April 10, 2021, 58 miles (94 km) – Total so far: 1,496 miles (2,408 km) Will have to consult my texts to Nancy my wife for updates that I send her as soon as I get into town……befoe a beer or two erases my daily highs and lows.
I’m recording this two days later trying to remember what all happened it was an uneventful day.
I know I had new petals wore my new shorts again after cleaning them really good they are very comfortable.
We had some Rolling hills, nothing too tough. We still had a hard time to go down hill with the rough roads, you couldn’t get much speed to coast up the next hill most of the time.
They had the chicken Primavera for dinner again with no seasoning; just served it as …
Day 30 April 11th road from Lockhart to La Grange TX: ZZ Top was not in the town today.
Sunday April 11, 2021, 63 miles (101 km) – Total so far: 1,559 miles (2,509 km) Was probably the most beautiful ride for scenery and long horn steers. pictures on Facebook
It was about 43F degrees when we woke up. I was all bundled up course had to go P out in the parking lot because there’s only three freaking toilets for 29 people.
So anyway coffee was served, the runny oatmeal was served, soon we’re heading out, started out was all right, some Rolling hills, some rough roads.
Well but that’s Texas, will be glad when we get out of Texas on these friggin chip and seal roads!! You just lose 3 to 5 miles an hour just on these bumpy roads. And you keep thinking, "oh do I have a flat tire?  but you don’t, and …
Day 31 Monday, April 12 ride from La Grange Texas to Hidalgo falls Tx 1600 miles rides: another wonderful day, mostly cloudy with some wind to keep us cool……….Eddie shouts all day long
Monday April 12, 2021, 69 miles (112 km) – Total so far: 1,629 miles (2,621 km) Anyway each morning I’ve been getting up feeling great, can’t wait to go bike riding! I don’t have any pains or stiff muscles or anything that feels old like I did a few months ago so I think I’m getting younger as I ride each day! so for those of you who haven’t gone riding cross-country you need to do it because you’ll get younger every day at least feel younger so it feels awesome.
So today we stopped at 50 miles for a rest up here for lunch and l am still feeling good! I’ve got about 18 more miles to go to the overnight camp excellent!
So last night it was only like 61 overnight so yeah wasn’t wasn’t cold and wasn’t hot didn’t really need a sleeping bag so I slept on top of it. But the humidity level was up so woke up in the outfield kind of sticky from the humidity but not bad. Then slept through most of the night other than …
