TxDOT wants to add four lanes to I-35, but a citizen work group is pushing ‘BAC’
by Seth Smalley | www.austinmonitor.com
At the April 5 joint meeting of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory councils (BAC and PAC), members reviewed a Google doc detailing their recommendations to the Texas Department of Transportation regarding the I-35 Capital Express Project.
The massive highway project proposes adding two managed lanes, in an attempt to relieve congestion, to each side of Interstate 35, from U.S. Highway 290 East to Ben White Boulevard/State Highway 71. …
… “TxDOT’s Mobility35 plan does not adequately address safety for people on bicycles and on foot as it maintains three-plus high-speed frontage road lanes. It also fails to provide any additional safe crossing points, a key aspect of reconnecting East and West Austin,†Tristan Heinen, a former BAC vice chair who is currently unaffiliated, told the Austin Monitor. “It’s a bad plan – 1950s-era thinking applied to a 2020 problem.†…

Day 31 Monday, April 12 ride from La Grange Texas to Hidalgo falls Tx 1600 miles rides: another wonderful day, mostly cloudy with some wind to keep us cool……….Eddie shouts all day long

I don’t have any pains or stiff muscles or anything that feels old like I did a few months ago so I think I’m getting younger as I ride each day! so for those of you who haven’t gone riding cross-country you need to do it because you’ll get younger every day at least feel younger so it feels awesome.
So today we stopped at 50 miles for a rest up here for lunch and l am still feeling good! I’ve got about 18 more miles to go to the overnight camp excellent!
So last night it was only like 61 overnight so yeah wasn’t wasn’t cold and wasn’t hot didn’t really need a sleeping bag so I slept on top of it. But the humidity level was up so woke up in the outfield kind of sticky from the humidity but not bad. Then slept through most of the night other than getting up to go potty once during the night. And one of the only two bathrooms for the whole RV campsite. I guess the RV folks have their own bathrooms but …
