Day 3 – Leakey: Hard day, ride cut in half
Friday March 26, 2021, 23 miles (37 km) – Total so far: 108 miles (174 km) Left the Los Rios Campground around 9:30 am. Stopped for breakfast at Casa Falcon in Camp Wood. The headed out on Ranch Road 337. I knew it was going to be a rough day due to the climbing. Traffic wasn’t too bad initially but as the day progressed started seeing more motorcycles. I started up the first climb but it became a hike-a-bike about a mile from the top.
A little ways before I got to the top there were several motorcycles stopped on the side of the road. Apparently one of the motorcyclists slid into the guard rail and broke is leg. He was doing ok when I passed him and responded to my comment. Shortly a …
The beauty of a backup bike …. and what you can learn from it

With the Primer out of commission while I await a frame replacement, I dusted off the old Trek Remedy 29er, a 140/140 heavy aluminum bike with a really short front-center and 70mm stem. Given how much my riding capabilities have advanced since the last time I even rode this old bike, I was asking myself, should I even be doing the same stuff on this bike that I do on my regular bike. What I quickly discovered is all that …
Balmy Second Saturday Of Spring At Mount Wichita
Durango Texas | durangotexas.blogspot.com
This final Saturday of the 2021 version of March is the first time in a long time, perhaps the first time this year, that I rode my bike south on the Circle Trail all the way to Mount Wichita.
It seems like only weeks ago Mount Wichita was covered with snow and freezing with a temperature below zero, because such was the case only weeks ago.
And now, today, that which was recently cold and white has turned warm and green.
As in a …
