Stopped A Bad Streak, Continued A Good One Biking to Huffman
I broke my two day streak of flat tires on today’s bike ride. This was one streak I didn’t mind breaking. One streak I continued was 200+ mile weeks. This is the third one in a row, not bad for this time of the year. After watching the races from Europe which ended earlier than the previous ones I got ready for the bike ride. I rolled my Canyon Endurace bike out and rode down the driveway pushing the start button on my Wahoo bolt computer at 9:54 AM. Today’s route was my usual Saturday ride where I hope to see other cyclists and today I saw more than last week when I started much later. The route: “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” biking 32.77 miles which put me 208.11 miles for the week. (Summary of the week is below). This was the first time to bike this route in 2021. I may add to that with a Sunday bike ride but the weather might not let me. I’m still ahead of last year by 56 miles. Today’s bike.
More nice warm weather and the wind wasn’t that strong when I started but it picked up during the bike ride: Weather conditions: start 74 (80% humidity, 67.7 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 7 mph; finish 79 (52% humidity, 60.3 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 16 mph gusts 23 mph. I wore shorts, a long sleeve jersey, and a short sleeve jersey. Early in the ride I was a little cooler than I prefer but about 15 minutes in my body heat kicked in and I was okay from then on.
Other cyclists appeared as I rode south over the river on West Lake Houston Parkway an more followed spread out from there to FM 2100. After returning to the west side of the lake I saw a couple more before finishing the bike ride at 12:24 PM.
Getting to FM 2100 required hard pedaling into the strong headwind which built up while I rode in that direction. My legs were able to power through much better than yesterday. At the turn to the north on FM 2100 I felt the headwind change to a tailwind and pedaling was easier. Power output in zones 3 through 7 came in at 52% of the 2:22:42 moving time during the bike ride.
