Zwifting in Watopia on the Dust In The Wind Course
Today I had a smaller time window for a bike ride. I wanted to leave before 11 AM but the temperature wasn’t cooperating. I decided to ride in Zwift but not as part of an event. Looking at the Watopia routes I scrolled through the list. Since I couldn’t ride outside I wanted to try riding the distance I planned. I landed on the Dust In The Wind route. The brief description fit, 32.2 miles with 1909 feet of climbing. Well the climbing part wasn’t in my outside ride but I have done that much climbing in Zwift before but never that many miles.
ZwiftInsider.com provides this route information: One of five routes rolled out with Zwift’s Titans Grove expansion, “Dust In the Wind†covers Titans Grove twice, as well as Fuego Flats, part of Ocean Boulevard, and a Mayan Jungle out and back. Along the way you’ll encounter a fair amount of virtual dirt/gravel road, so you might consider using a gravel bike so you can move to the front of the pack and make everyone else eat your dust! I think I rode the route components but not in this order or distance.
I watched the feet climbed and did some math spreading the 1909 feet over 32.2 miles but it didn’t break out like that. By 16.1 miles I was over 1148 feet which was good because I was tired of climbing. This meant slightly less in the remaining 16.1 miles. At 27.2 miles I had climbed 1872 which meant the last 5 miles was essentially flat, Fuego Flat actually.
Before I switched my sensors from Bluetooth to ANT+ because they disconnected. I noticed the Wahoo Snap trainer was not providing resistance. Going to the pairing menu it was disconnected, pairing to ANT+ got it working though I enjoyed climbing a small hill without resistance. Later during the ride there were 3 or 4 brief disconnects. I spotted those along the bottom of the Zwift screen when the red line dipped to the edge.
Not riding in an event removes pressure but other Zwifters are on the route and sometimes I got in a group for drafting purposes.
This ride puts a 200 mile week in the picture. I am at 149.84 miles (road + Zwift) and 2 potential bike ride days left. Month to date totals the same. My total goal for March, 675 miles.
2 silver medals from Strava, both contain climbing.
