Even More Wind To Fight Biking to Ramsey Road and Back to Kingwood
The wind didn’t go away overnight. Today’s bike ride involved even stronger wind than yesterday but the route went in a different direction. The bike ride started at 11:20 AM as I rode my Canyon Endurace bike onto the street. I chose a longer route than yesterday to take advantage of the warmer temperature. Tomorrow’s forecast calls for temperatures below my biking threshold so I need to take advantage of each opportunity. Today’s route is a variation of another route, “Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman”. Due to the road construction on FM 2100 I altered the route to “Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Kingwood”. The distance is about the same coming in at 37.04 miles compared to an average of 36 miles on the other route. This is the first time biking to Ramsey Road since October 10th, 2020. Not sure why I didn’t go there during that time.
Because the weather warmed up I wore a new Voler long sleeve jersey under a windbreaker jacket. No need for a thermal one today. I like this jersey because the sleeve length is just right. The color is good too.
That wind I mentioned and other conditions for the bike ride: start 73 (66% humidity, 61.3 dew point), overcast, wind SW 13 mph gusts 26 mph; finish 77 (60% humidity, 61.8 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SW 15 mph gusts 21 mph. Getting to Ramsey Road generally was with a tailwind but the ride back to Kingwood was into a stiff headwind on Old Atascocita Road and FM 1960 going west. Exposed to the strong wind biking over Lake Houston at times I barely went faster then 9 or 10 mph. Thankfully turning right onto Atascocita Shores Drive got me out of the headwind. I thought about stopping for a short rest to let my legs regroup but waited until I was on Kings River Drive at a stop sign. Earlier when I was at the bridge on Ramsey Road I stopped for several minutes to prepare for the headwind. While stopped I took these photos.
You can see the mostly cloudy sky but not the wind moving the tree limbs.

Strava categorized the bike ride as harder than my usual efforts. I agree because of the wind. The route profile is pretty flat.
