Late Start, 3rd Place Finish ZZRC Group Ride on Watopia’s Sand and Sequoias
I held out until 11:40 AM waiting for the fog and temperature to lift. Walking outside I saw wet pavement and water dripping from the house. That made the decision to ride Zwift easy. I signed up for the ZZRC Group Ride (D) on Watopia’s Sand and Sequoias course starting at 12:20 PM. The ride lasted 60 minutes. When I finished the hour I biked 16.33 miles and climbed 610 feet.
It wasn’t a smooth start as the companion app on my phone wouldn’t stay connected to pair my sensors. After checking the network and trying again I inserted my new ANT+ dongle in my desktop computer. A few seconds later I went through the pairing process in Zwift. The ANT+ adapter showed up and I got on my Blue Norcross AL bike but the group had already left. About 4 minutes behind I caught two stragglers and settled into a steady pace. The course was relatively flat and I didn’t think too much that I rode up the hills without the Wahoo Snap trainer making it harder. At the 35 minute point I checked the pairing and saw the trainer power connection not working. I opened the tab, selected the ANT+ adapter and the trainer started making me pedal hard on the hills. I finished 149th out of 150 in the sprints but Zwiftpower.com shows me at 3rd. I am surprised.
This was the second ride on the Watopia Sand and Sequoias course. The first was on 1/7/2021 but for 12.75 miles versus today’s 16.34 miles. The difference was the time, 43:39 and 1:00:56, respectively.
Strava counted some medals: 1 gold and 3 bronze. A significant reduction from yesterday’s Zwift event.
