Wind Driven Kingwood – FM 1485 – Kingwood Bike Ride
Second day in a row with weather above my cutoff threshold. I started at 12:22 PM after waiting a little longer for it warm up a degree or two. Riding my Canyon Endurace bike I started out on my “Kingwood – FM 1485 – Kingwood” route. The 14 mph SE wind propelled me north until I made the u-turn under US59 for the return ride to Kingwood. At some point during the ride the wind stepped up to 17 mph from the SE requiring more watts but I held my average speed at 14.4 mph until I exited Kellington Drive onto the US59 southbound frontage road to make the u-turn at Kingwood Drive where it dropped to 14.3 mph. From there to the 2:47 PM finish my average speed decreased as I rode on side streets with stop signs.
Weather conditions at the start and finish. I dressed like yesterday with shorts, leg warmers, thermal long sleeve jersey, and a windbreaker jacket. I was comfortable once I warmed up but the strong wind tried to chill me.
At the Caney Creek u-turn I expected to see the man living in his truck under the bridge with his dogs but his spot was clean and he was gone. The dogs always barked wildly as I rode by and he would yell at them to be quiet.
Compared to my recent Zwift rides today was pancake flat with 79 feet of climbing.
Today’s ride puts me in front of the pace to reach my 300 mile goal for January with 104 miles left. The next 2 days’ weather forecast look favorable for more outdoor biking.
