Zwift – Greater London Flat With A 15% Climb Thrown In
Today I moved away from Watopia to London. I landed on the ZHCC TGI Friday 1.5 ride starting at 12:30 PM and riding for 60 minutes on the Greater London Flat course. I emphasize “Flat” which it was except for the 15% climb up out of the below ground London subway tunnel. I stood on the pedals to crawl up the mountain at 3 mph. I wasn’t alone on that climb. fortunately it didn’t last long and we returned to flat terrain. Overall I rode 19.5 miles gaining 518 feet in elevation. This is the longest ride in Zwift since I resumed in December 2020. Outside the 50 degrees signaled I made a good choice.
Looking at the profile in Strava the course looks relatively flat but SportTracks shows it to be much more “lumpy”. The SportTracks profile is below and the Strava version below that. There are 3 London courses with similar names: Greater London Flat (route I rode today), Greatest London Flat (which may include more climbing but avoids Box Hill), and Greater London 8. When I opened Zwift the option to choose London Courses did not appear so I guess I only ride them if in an event there. I am at level 17 so maybe higher levels can ride in London on their own.
Another ride capturing a bunch of medals according to Strava: 16 bronze and 3 silver. In the sprint I came in 42nd out of 112. There more than 171 in our group. This ride was more my speed because I stayed with the group for the whole ride, busted through the fence numerous times but returned behind it in time to not get removed and mounted a sprint at the finish with a bunch of other Zwifters.
