2 new Austin bike lanes cruise onto list of the best in the U.S.

After COVID-19 struck the U.S., cycling zoomed into the consciousness and routines of millions of Americans. We dusted off bicycles we hadn’t ridden in years, or we bought new bicycles to get exercise and to get out of the house. Mini Dana Peak Bike Fest April 9th-11th

I really miss going to the Desert Fests in Big Bend. So much fun. Ride, socialize in the evening, repeat the next day. But I don’t miss the 16 hour round trip drive to get there!
So a group of us are replicating that experience at Dana Peak on Friday April 9th to Sunday April 11th. We already have 25, mostly SATN riders, that have reservations for either an RV site or a tent site. There are three Friday RV sites left and five Saturday spots left. There are also lots of tent sites available.

Man on bike dies after being hit by SUV

WACO, Texas — A 66-year-old Waco man was hit and killed by a car while riding his bicycle. Officers say Tim Eaton was hit just before 5 p.m. on January 2 on the 8700 block of Chapel Road.
Witnesses told police that Eaton pulled out of the parking lot of a bank and rode across the flow of traffic. A woman driving an SUV hit him, then got out and stayed with Eaton until he was taken away by paramedics. At this time, no charges have been filed against her.
Eaton was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Cyclist killed by driver in west Houston hit-and-run

A bicyclist was hit and killed Tuesday by a driver who fled the scene in west Houston, according to authorities.
The collision occurred at the intersection of Fondren and Westheimer.
The driver of an SUV and the cyclist both had been traveling north on Fondren Road. The driver turned right onto Westheimer and struck the cyclist, who was crossing the intersection, authorities said.
The investigation is ongoing. No further description of the suspect’s vehicle was available.
