Spin Up, Spin Down Makes Big Difference In Staying With The HERD
The outside weather was not hospitable again today so I selected another Zwift ride. My outdoor biking threshold is 60 degrees and when I started today’s Zwift ride it was 46 with light rain. Not my kind of outside biking weather.
I perused the Zwift events and landed on The HERD Tuesday Social Ride group D. The course was the Volcano Flat with a 1.4 – 1.6 w/kg average. My kind of ride after my recent episodes of of low power. Start time was 11:55 AM which left me plenty of time to get set up.
After yesterday’s Zwift ride I did a spin up and spin down calibration of my Wahoo Snap smart trainer using the Wahoo Utility app. The app didn’t report any change so I was curious what today’s ride would show. I am happy to report my power output today was much closer to my road output. According to Golden Cheetah the average power improved to 125 watts and max to 313 watts. This compares to my latest road ride’s 111 watts and 442 watts. Yesterday’s Zwift ride was 81 watts and 213 watts.
The real test was if I could stay with the group. I stayed with the group and even crashed the fence several times until my electricity went off for about 2 minutes ending my ride at 49:53 of a scheduled 60 minute event. Bummer!!! Some shots during the ride.
With this improved ride I set several personal records, several 2nd places, and 3rd places on Strava.
