Waited For More Degrees For 1st December Bike Ride
The last time I rode outside was November 25th, the day before Thanksgiving. Today I waited for the temperature to move above 60 degrees before beginning the ride at 12:24 PM. My Canyon Endurace bike almost forgot what is was to go outside. I bundled up with shorts, leg warmers, a wicking t-shirt, long sleeve thermal jersey, windbreaker jacket, and full finger gloves. I don’t care for chilly weather. My road mileage goal for December is 150 miles. The reason it is so low is the weather. To offset that I ride in Zwift when it is too cold to ride outside.
Today’s ride video is a short one. I used my handheld GoPro Hero 7 Silver for all of the clips. I wondered if I could press the record button on the Hero 7 Black with my gloves on. The wind blew the dead cat mic muff off the Comica mic but I quickly stopped and picked it up. I need to find a better way to keep it on the mic.
I chose the “Atascocita – Walden – E. Lake Houston Parkway” route for today’s ride. With a late start I didn’t want to go farther and risk the temperature dropping. I biked 28.12 miles, almost catching me up on the miles I was short to reach my goal so far, only 5.76 miles behind. Year to date I moved to 8,904 miles. I have never biked this many miles in a year. If I reach my road goal and add more Zwift miles I will hit 9,000+ miles.
With about 8 miles left in the ride I stopped to answer a text message and took this shot. The blue sky is terrific.
My power output is much better on the road than in Zwift. Today my power output in zones 3 to 7 totaled 54% of the ride time. 16% was in zones 6 and 7. Strava said this ride was harder than my usual efforts to reinforce the difference. Below is the Golden Cheetah summary of the bike ride.
My Canyon Endurace now has 20,053 miles, accumulated since February 2018 when it arrived.
