Harrogate Circuit Reverse Turned Out To Be Hillogate
I searched the upcoming Zwift events and selected the ZSUN Saturday Social Ride starting at 12:10 PM. This left over an hour and a half to get ready but I got sidetracked and hurried to get my computer connected just 4 minutes before the start. Fortunately I prepared somethings in advance like the YouTube livestream. As the start timer counted down I began pedaling to not lose the group. I wasn’t sure about the Harrogate Circuit Reverse course profile. It turned out to have some steep climbs, 1115 elevation gain overall. Until today I never rode my Blue Norcross AL bike standing up with the Wahoo Snap smart trainer for more than a few seconds. That changed today. Some of the climbs were so steep that was the only way I could turn the pedals and go forward. Now I know the Harrogate is for climbers. The event lasted 60 minutes and I made it all the way covering 12.9 miles.
This was the first event with ZSUN. The fence was out but I never got near it. There were a few riders behind me so I wasn’t last. The finish was cruel going uphill and I rode slowly. According to the Golden Cheetah ride summary data I spent 18% of the ride time in power zone 4. Average power was 97 watts and max power came in at 266 watts. I worked going up those hills. You can see them in the SportTracks ride summary below.
I notched 8 personal records in Strava. I can’t remember getting that many on a ride. I also recorded 8 2nd personal records. Quite the record day yet I spent most of the ride a couple of minutes behind the main group.
I am making progress on my Zwift mileage goal after today’s 12.9 miles I need 188 more miles.
Cold weather continued today with the temperature hovering in the low 50’s as the ride began. Next week the forecast shows a few days in the 60’s and I plan on riding outside if they happen.
