You have been the bedrock of CYCLE, and we are asking you to be that again. Because the Coronavirus has made it too risky to gather in big groups, we have been forced to cancel our 2020 CYCLE Bicycle Ball and Corporate Bike Builds – our two main sources of funding. But the need in the schools remains just as great now as ever before. We want to continue to buy bikes to reward at-risk children for improving their reading and literacy. This will enable them to catch up in school now and prevent them from falling further behind next year and beyond. If we do not help them, many will fall hopelessly behind and eventually drop out of school. Some will enter lives of crime and many will continue the relentless cycle of poverty. This month, Austin voters resoundingly affirmed the city’s proposed plans for better active transportation and transit networks. After years of dedicated community engagement from Capital Metro and local advocates like the coalition Transit for Austin, Proposition A, a tax increase to fund a massive expansion of Capital Metro’s transit network, and Proposition B, an active mobility bond, both passed handily.
