September Biking Ends On High Note, Great Weather
What a blue sky for the last day of biking in September! I readied my Canyon Endurace bike with my replacement Wahoo Elemnt Bolt computer and rolled out on today’s bike ride at 10:57 AM. I rode north on what I label the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route. I needed to ride 35 miles to make it an 800 mile month and exceeded that biking 37.19 miles. This put my total for September at 802.46 miles, 102 miles over my goal. I more than made up the miles I was short on my August goal. A summary of September biking.
Missing 6 days made me wonder if I could reach my goal but once the weather got better I was back on the road.
For the second day the sky was solid blue from rim to rim. When I awoke this morning a quick check of my home weather station showed 51 degrees but I knew the forecast called for 80+ degrees. By the time I started at 10:57 AM it was 80 and at the 1:49 PM finish 84 degrees. Wind wasn’t much of a problem after the strong wind the last two days with 5 mph at the beginning and 7 mph at the end. Humidity and dew point were extremely low for our area making it feel cool. Overall weather during the ride: start 80 (40% humidity, 53.7 dew point), fair, wind SW 5 mph. Finish 84 (33% humidity, 51.8 dew point), fair, wind variable 7 mph. I wore arm sleeves instead of a long sleeve jersey and felt comfortable.
My testing mic muffs on the GoPro camera had mixed results today. Sometimes the wind noise frowned out my voice but overall it was okay. Tomorrow I will remove the wind muffs, put the Hero 7 Black in the frame with the foam windscreen. The frame adds fills the foam better than just using the camera.
Getting the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt computer back into use was refreshing. It’s features and setup was easier than the Lezyne Macro Plus. Text message alerts and phone calls work better on the Bolt. Also the PowerPod connects with Bolt which I plan on using on tomorrow’s bike ride on my Lynskey R300. I forgot to change the setting in the Favero app to double the power sent to the Bolt but it appeared to ignore it since I saw power reading with odd numbers which would happen if the pedals doubled the power.
Today marked the 10th time biking today’s route in 2020. 9 times on my Canyon Endurace and once on my Lynskey R300.
