Two Missions Accomplished: Completed Bike Ride, Mileage Goal Exceeded
After two attempts to ride to the south the previous two days today I changed to the north starting at 10:23 AM on the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route. My Canyon Endurace carried me 37.26 miles allowing me to reach my 800 mile goal for July with a total of 803.65 miles. Also the Canyon rolled to 18,006 miles since I bought it. This marks the 8th time I biked this route in 2020, 7 times on my Canyon Endurace and 1 time on my Lynskey R300. The rest of the month I will see how much I can exceed my goal. A summary of the bike rides on this route is below.
The weather changed to a cooler level following Hurricane Hannah moving ashore in South Texas on Saturday. Conditions at the 10:23 AM start and 1:12 PM finish: start 78 (99% humidity, 77.4 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind E 6 mph. Finish 87 (79% humidity, 79.8 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind E 5 mph. Lately I began wearing arm sleeves for sun protection but today I think they also provided some warmth for the “chilly” temperature at the start of the ride.
With two days of rest my legs were up to the light headwind getting to SH 242 and taking advantage of the tailwind back to the south. The headwind didn’t keep me from improving my average speed so I was rolling at a good pace to build on. I built my overall average speed up to 14.4 mph going back to Kingwood.
