After Today Possibly 5 Degrees Less, Lost A Head, GoPro Go Back, Mount Revised
As I looked down the driveway getting ready to leave on today’s bike ride I saw a long streak of damp dirt where a sprinkler head came loose and washed the dirt there. I would fix that when I got back from the bike ride but I stopped long enough to screw the head back in place. I chose the “Kingwood to Ramsey Road – Huffman” route for me and my Lynskey R300 bike to travel. I barely got started before 10 AM punching the Bolt start button at 9:59 AM. The finish came at 1:09 PM after riding 37.57 miles. This was the 7th time on this route in 2020, 2 times on my Lynskey R300 and 5 times on my Canyon Endurace. With these miles my week improved to 143.91 miles and July to 524.88 miles, 66% of my 800 mile goal for July.
According to Space City Weather today will be the last 99+ degree day for now with the high temperature dropping to the mid 90’s. I like hot weather but I am looking forward to the temperature to let up a little. Weather at the start and finish of today’s ride: start 90 (72% humidity, 79.8 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SW 4 mph. Finish 94 (54% humidity, 75.1 dew point), partly cloudy, wind W 5 mph.
After yesterday’s GoPro camera mount failure on my Canyon Endurace bike I worked on a replacement. The revised mount is all metal with fewer parts and hopefully able to stand up to the vibration. I used the T mount, added a flattened lock washer to fill space on one of the tabs, moving it out front more from the Bolt computer. I planned on testing it on tomorrow’s ride but while I was biking GoPro sent me an RMA to return the Hero7 Black camera because of the freezing problem. Fortunately I have the Hero7 Silver camera to use while I wait on the replacement but the mic adapter doesn’t work with it. I will use my hand to hold the Hero7 Silver to take video. The revised mount.
Also while I biked my desktop Windows 10 computer decided to turn off and remove the Bluetooth radio killing my mouse. Using a desktop computer without a mouse is impossible for me. I have an extra wireless mouse but it is too sensitive with the cursor jumping around so I switched to a wired mouse which works a little better. Thank you Microsoft for updating Windows 10 to 2004 version and killing Bluetooth. Checking the internet I am not the only person with this problem. I tried several things but nothing worked. My main computer is a Samsung Galaxy Chromebook but to edit video and download data from my PowerPod a Windows computer is necessary.
Biking in the Texas heat sets the scene for how I envision Texas. It reminds me of Wichita Falls and the HH100 where it usually hot in August. I stopped for a rest break as the video shows and it felt nice sitting in the shade with a light breeze blowing. Where I stopped on Ramsey Road used to not see much traffic but this year the traffic increased for some reason. I used to ride east from FM 2100 to Ramsey Road and see 1 or 2 cars or trucks. Now it may be 10 or more. On Ramsey Road no traffic would pass but today at least 5 vehicles and a motorcycle went by.
Riding the Lynskey R300 feels different from the Canyon Endurace as it should. My legs were up to the ride and the CamelBak delivered cold water the whole ride. I forgot to charge my Niterider taillight so it gave up before the end of the ride.
