Part Way on the Greenway. Plans Change, I Adapt
After an early morning trip to get the windshield in my Jeep Wrangler repaired I read the digital newspaper while eating breakfast. The news didn’t make sick, thank goodness. Prepping the Lynskey R300 I started today’s bike ride at 10:41 AM. The plan was to ride the Spring Creek Greenway to Dennis Johnston Park, about 42 miles there and back. That plan lasted until I rode up to the construction crew at the Carter Park trail head where the greenway was closed with numerous large dump trucks backing up on the greenway toward John Pundt Park.
With the unexpected change today’s bike ride was shorter at 33.44 miles. This moves the week’s total to 154.42 miles putting 200+ miles for the week still within range. The total for June stands at 597.6 miles, 203 miles short of my goal for the month.I had heard of construction on the greenway earlier in the month but nothing lately. I wasn’t prepared with a detour around the closed section but I did ride to Treshwig Road at the Carter Park entrance and then to Cypresswood Drive where I made a u-turn back to the park and retraced my ride. In the video as I rode north over the river I gave the route I usually take but to add some miles I altered that when I approached Hamblen Road. Today’s ride on the Greenway was the 4th this year and the shortest. 3 of the 4 have been on the Lynskey R300 bike.
The weather was great for a bike ride. With all of the shade on the greenway it felt comfortable. Conditions during the bike ride: start 88 (60% humidity, 72.8 dew point), partly cloudy, wind S 9 mph. Finish 92 (49% humidity, 70.1 dew point), a few clouds, wind SE 15 mph gusts 23 mph. I did not notice the wind increasing while on the trail but when I got back to US59 it felt windy. Glad I was riding to the north and then east.
I think the video and audio turned out good with nice shots of the trail. I wondered why the number of people was so low and the construction probably was the cause.
