GoPro Drama, Tiny Piece of Wire, Donut Failure But Then Normal
My attempt to leave on the bike ride before 10 AM fizzled out but I did get the wheels rolling at 10:26 AM. I chose the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route and biked 37.23 miles. Those were not easy miles though. My week and month now total 176.35 miles, 22% of the way to my 800 mile goal for June. I am off to a good start. This was the 5th time this year biking this route. Today I rode the Canyon Endurace bike.
Yesterday I received the new GoPro frame that includes space for the mic adapter. I tried to find a way to mount the GoPro frame on the Canyon Endurace handlebar stem settling on using two zip ties holding the base with a piece of inner tube on the stem.
I tugged on the GoPro and tried moving it around and it felt secure. That was great at home but it didn’t last long on the ride. Look at the video and you will see what happened. The camera took a spill, not me. The Canyon’s stem is an unusual shape unlike the Lynskey’s round stem.
Heading back home I replaced the zip tie mount remains with an adhesive base which also felt secure and resumed the ride. The GoPro stayed in place but kept vibrating backwards aiming up to the sky. I looped back home again and used a screwdriver to tighten the frame mounting screw. This helped but on rough roads it still vibrated back. I settled for that and moved it back in place during the ride. This is what this setup looks like.
After making these changes I set out on the ride and all went well until about 20.5 miles when the rear wheel starting feeling like it was wobbling. I was on the US59 southbound feeder headed to FM 1485. The video tells what happened.
My next goal was a free glazed donut from Shipley’s in Porter but that didn’t turn out as planned either. The free donut is for Donut Day.
After that the ride returned to normal and I finished at 1:55 PM.
