Space City Weather Forecast Turned Into Reality
Third bike ride in June as I work towards my 800 mile goal. The bike ride started at 11:02 AM on the Lynskey R300 bike. I plan on riding the Lynskey R300 on tomorrow’s bike ride too. I chose a northerly route following what I label “New Caney – Gene Campbell Road” since I rode to the south yesterday. To add to the distance in the beginning I went on some extra streets in Elm Grove Village ending up riding 37.74 miles. The week now totals 106.04 miles.
Reading the Space City Weather forecast for today they mentioned afternoon showers as a possibility. Well the possibility turned into reality around mile 26 on FM 1314. I had been saying to myself the sky looked like rain but it seemed to move as I got closer. To prepare I thought of places to get out of the rain after leaving Pat’s Donuts. I thought of the Stripes store at Valley Ranch Parkway but the rain came down faster so I decided to stop at the Ace Hardware store. When I pulled under the front metal porch about 1:08 PM the rain hitting the metal was loud but slowly became quieter. I was going to stop later to eat a Blueberry Crisp Clif Bar but decided to take advantage of the rain delay and eat it while I waited. By 1:20 PM the rain slowed enough for me to roll out. I hoped the rain fell in a small area and briefly on Briar Berry Lane found some dry streets but that faded away. In front of the 2 schools the light rain returned and stayed with until I reached Kingwood Place. The streets were wet there but no more rain. The wet streets continued until I crossed Loop 494 into Kings Manor. From there to home dry streets ruled though some places the curb was damp. I finished the ride at 2:11 PM with some sunshine. As I write this 2 hours later it is raining.
Weather at the start and finish: start 85 (79% humidity, 77.3 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind calm. Finish 89 (73% humidity, 79.1 dew point), partly cloudy, wind E 10 mph. Now that summer like weather exists my attire consists of bike shorts, short sleeve jersey, and sunscreen. When I bought groceries on Monday (Walmart pickup) they substituted 2 large spray bottles of sunscreen for the 2 pack of smaller ones I ordered. I may not need to buy sunscreen again until August.
I will have an apple fritter to eat after tomorrow’s bike ride. Watch the video to see how that came about.
I biked the “New Caney – Gene Campbell Road” route for the 8th time this year; 3 times on the Lynskey R300 bike and 5 times on the Canyon Endurace bike.
