Almost Early Start, A Trove of Bikers, and GoPro Freeze While Warm
An early start on today’s bike ride with wheels turning at 8:40 AM. I try to leave early on Saturdays to see other cyclists on FM 1960 and east of Lake Houston. My “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route takes me there and going to Huffman before Walden helps. Those cyclists must start earlier than I do. With this start time I finished today’s bike ride at 11:17 AM, the same time I started yesterday’s ride. The Canyon Endurace CF SLX carried me 32.64 miles getting closer to a 200+ mile week with 182.28 miles, only 18 miles more to go which I should cover on Sunday after church.
The video is longer today because of the cyclists along the route. I missed a few who surprised me before I could turn on the GoPro. The GoPro Hero7 Black has a problem freezing up during the ride. The solution is to pull the battery out and put it back in. After that all is well. Yesterday it happened at clip number 11. Today at the 21 mile point when I stopped at Atascocita Shores Drive on FM 1960 waiting on the traffic light to change it recorded a long clip and then froze. I missed a cyclist at the Pinehurst Trail Drive and FM 1960 traffic light because I didn’t realize it froze. I stopped once I crossed FM 1960 and found a shady spot. A while back I asked about this on a GoPro forum but didn’t get an answer that worked. The rolling studio is a work in progress.
Today marked the fifth time riding this route. It seemed the Wahoo Bolt computer wasn’t counting the distance correctly but maybe I was wrong. A summary of the 5 rides so far in 2020.
It was a little cooler than I prefer at the start time but counting on it to warm up as the ride progressed I wore shorts and a Texbiker short sleeve jersey. Weather while I pedaled: start 75 (84% humidity, 69.5 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind N 8 mph. Finish 82 (71% humidity, 72.0 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind E 8 mph. The wind wasn’t much of a problem except riding east over Lake Houston without anything blocking it. Traffic helped some.
