Skedaddle From Sporadic Mist Roman Forest Blvd Bike Ride
After two back to back rides over 41 miles I dialed it back with a shorter bike ride on the “New Caney – Roman Forest Blvd – Oakhurst” route of 33.25 miles. The bike ride began at 11:04 AM, a somewhat earlier start time. This route covers roads I ride frequently but not in this combination. Checking my riding history I found these rides on the same route.
An overcast sky held the temperature back to 75 degrees but the wind did not hold back blowing from the SE at 13 mph shifting to the south by the 1:39 PM ride finish and adding 1 mph. At times biking back to the south from Roman Forest Blvd into that headwind required committed pedaling. Overall weather during the bike ride: 75 (92% humidity, 72.5 dew point), overcast, wind SE 13 mph. Finish 79 (89% humidity, 75.1 dew point), overcast, wind S 14 mph. Sporadically a light mist fell raising my concern about getting home without getting soaked but I made it. As I rode through Oakhurst the overcast sky brightened a little letting the sun break through for a few seconds. From there to the finish the mist disappeared. Because of the lack of sun I wore shorts, long sleeve jersey, and a short sleeve Ohio State jersey thinking it might be chilly.
Not much happened along the route until I came to Community Drive and the Grand Parkway. I didn’t get close enough to see the details but at least two fire trucks with red lights flashing blocked the southbound frontage road. I was on the northbound frontage road until I went east on Community Drive. When I returned to the general area riding south the trucks were gone or at least the red lights were before I turned onto Valley Ranch Parkway.
With today’s ride the week totals 118.4 miles and April stands at 695.56 miles. Year to date shows 2237 road miles and 542 Zwift miles for a total of 2779 miles. The closest year to 2020 is 2017 which stood at 2157 miles on this date. 2017 did not include any Zwift miles.
