Boredom Brings Out Powerwashers; Splendora Bike Ride
As I travel the road biking I notice more people powerwashing something. I guess during the stay at home requirement people go through their list of chores and powerwashing comes up. As I started today’s bike ride I heard a powerwash machine droning away across the street.
Before starting today’s bike ride after taking the Lynskey R300 bike outside I stopped to air up the tires. The front tire felt soft so both got aired up to 85 psi. Rolling down the driveway I felt the difference of more air with the Lynskey R300 moving faster with less pedal effort. The ride started at 12:06 PM, later than I wanted but this allowed the temperature to go up a few degrees.
I chose the “Kingwood – Splendora – Kingwood” route heading north. The last time I rode this route was August 7th, 2019. I didn’t realize it had been that long until after finishing today. With SH 242 construction west of US59 I will need to ride to Splendora more often.
Today was a splendid day for biking: start 78 (74% humidity, 68.9 dew point), overcast, wind SE 5 mph. Finish 82 (65% humidity, 68.8 dew point), partly cloudy, wind calm. After yesterday’s rain seeing the sun and 82 degrees was great. Because it was still in the 70’s at the start I decided to wear a long sleeve jersey, a short sleeve jersey, and shorts. It turned out to be a good choice with the long sleeves providing sun protection and just enough warmth to offset the slight chill in the wind. Wind was light to calm allowing me to ramp up my average speed to 14.6 mph at times. The Lynskey R300 gearing meshed perfectly with the effort. I am glad I changed to the 11×25 rear cassette, it changed the bike’s personality to the better.
I finished the bike ride at 3:26 PM after going 43.26 miles, the longest bike ride since I rode the Gator Ride in Baytown on March 7th. With today’s miles April totals 620.42 miles, 10 miles short of my 630 mile goal. I think I can get there with Tuesday’s weather repeating today’s.
