Smell-a-Vision, Chilly Wind, Sunny Bike Ride to Tavola
My mind kept thinking about 90 degrees on Sunday as I biked around Kingwood. Fast forward to today (Wednesday) with 44 degrees when I got out of bed. The forecast called for 70 but the thermometer slowly went up to 50, then 55, 65 by the time I set out on today’s bike ride at 1:17 PM. I read somewhere I shouldn’t start a post with the weather but it was on mind and holding up my bike ride.
Weather during the bike ride on the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route: start 65 (48% humidity, 44.9 dew point), a few clouds, wind NE 6 mph. Finish 70 (45% humidity, 47.5 dew point), partly cloudy, wind N 8 mph. At least the wind didn’t get as strong as yesterday. I dressed warmly with shorts, leg warmers, long sleeve thermal jersey, and a windbreaker jacket. As I rode I wondered what I would do if I run out of jackets. The wind chill emphasized the headwind it seemed. Getting to Tavola was into a headwind keeping my speed down but my average speed got better inspite of it.
Because of the late start I shortened the part of the route through Tavola by about 1 mile. This got me on Roman Forest Blvd sooner and then riding south on the frontage road with a tailwind. Then my average speed moved to 14.0 mph and settled at 14.3 mph until I rode back into Kingwood. I finished the bike ride at 3:57 PM riding into the headwind for the last mile.
Around 4 minutes into the video I mention smell-a-vision. Watch to see why.
