Easter Sunday Kingwood Bike Ride
Easter arrived quickly mainly because I have been busy this week. By the time church ended today (I am on the live streaming team) the early morning rain and clouds blew away leaving 89 degrees and sunshine. Starting the ride at 1:22 PM I went over a route in my head staying in Kingwood mostly on the streets. I remembered last Sunday’s ride and added a northern extension into Royal Brook and Country Colony.
Before the ride as I looked at the weather the wind jumped out: W 12 mph gusts 22 mph. I figured hard pedaling whenever the route headed west. The first 9.5 miles was into the headwind and what a relief when I reached that point. From there my direction changed mostly to the east and south easing the effort. That’s when I improved my average speed to 13+ mph. Sometimes on bike rides the wind tappers off but not today. By the 3:11 PM finish it was W 15 mph gusts 25 mph.
The bike ride highlights in 5 minutes.
As you see in the video other people biked, walked and enjoyed the sun. Even some vultures got into the video. The first biker in the video fell just before I turned the GoPro on from the wet concrete as he made a turn. I didn’t record the next person at Deerbrook and Northpark Drives. A jogger, he gave me a wide berth after crossing Northpark and seeing me stopped in the shade waiting for the light to change. I rode after the light changed and passed around me commenting on the Canyon Endurace bike.
89 degrees starts to get where I prefer to ride and by the end it increase to 90. I wore shorts and a short sleeve jersey with sunscreen. Sunscreen use increased this week.
Speaking of the week, with today’s 22.75 miles the week’s total came in at 229.77 miles, the highest week so far in 2020. Up to now the highest week was 227.75 miles, 2 weeks ago. A summary of the week’s activity.
April totals 374.81 miles. My goals: 600 road miles and 30 Zwift miles. The road miles goal continues but my Zwift subscription ended today so that goal will not be met since I only rode 18.7 miles so far.
