Sun to Overcast, Cool to Wind Chilly Bike Ride
Sunshine came in my windows as I prepared to leave on today’s bike ride. Selecting my usual Saturday route, “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” the Canyon Endurace rolled out the driveway at 10:57 AM. But clouds slowly moved in hiding the sun and making it feel cooler. I hoped once I got warmed up the wind chill would be less noticeable.
The goal was to ride at least 27 miles to hit 200+ miles for the week and I surpassed that biking 33.11 miles putting the week ‘s total at 207.02 miles and the month at 352.06 miles. With 19 more potential riding days my 630 mile goal for April looks doable. Sunday is my last day to Zwift and reach my 30 mile goal for April but I don’t know if that will happen. Sunday’s afternoon weather forecast looks favorable for outdoor riding in place of Zwift. If so, I will fall short of the Zwift goal.
While it was 77 degrees at the start with the increasing cloud cover at the 1:28 PM finish it dropped to 75. during that time the wind increase from 7 mph to 15 mph from the SE. This added to the chilling effect making me glad I chose to wear a long sleeve jersey, short sleeve jersey, and shorts. If it was overcast at the start I might have opted for a jacket instead of the long sleeve jersey. More detailed bike ride weather: start 77 (67% humidity, 65.0 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 7 mph. Finish 75 (80% humidity, 68.4 dew point), overcast, wind SE 15 mph.
Highlights from today’s bike ride. 33.11 miles compressed into 8 minutes.
Numerous people passed me along the route either biking or walking. I saw a few joggers too. I managed to get all the bikers in the video except for 2. While waiting for the light to change at Atascocita Shores Dr. and FM 1960 I saw them at the Chevron station across the road but they were too far to capture on the GoPro plus traffic kept moving between us. The only reason I spotted them was their bright orange jerseys.
The GoPro external microphone picks up my voice nicely even in noisy situations like passing traffic. Wind noise reduction when I moved the mic behind my helmet strap helped. Battery life does not appear to be greatly reduced with the mic as long as I use the QuikCapture feature of the GoPro. This feature allows me to record video without the camera being on all the time. When I push the record button there is a 3 second delay before the camera records. To stop I push the record button again. Each time I push the record button a different set of beeps alerts me about what took place.
