Bike Ride to FM 1485 and Back with Fritter Power
I got a little later start on today’s bike ride leaving home at 11:17 AM to ride the “Kingwood – FM1485 -Kingwood” route biking 31.61 miles. Time just ran faster than I moved.
Weather during the bike ride: start 86 (63% humidity, 71.5 dew point), partly cloudy, wind S 13 mph. Finish 89 (55% humidity, 70.4 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 14 mph gusts 29 mph. Another short sleeve jersey day. The wind on the way back from New Caney was determined to work my legs over and succeeded eroding my average speed down from 14.0 mph to 13.5 mph by the 2:02 PM finish back in Kingwood. Those 29 mph gusts are a killer to pedal in. I saw the RGV might have 45 mph winds today; glad I am not trying to ride there. Saturday a front will pass through slightly changing to cooler temperatures and maybe some rain. I plan on biking before the front arrives in the morning.
Because of all the energy I used pedaling back to Porter I rationalized, aided by good timing, that I must stop st Pat’s Donut’s for an Apple Fritter to power me back to Kingwood. I got there about 4 minutes before they closed which is good because the salesman gave me two fritters for the price of since it was just before closing. He was kind to put them in a plastic bag so I could carry they as I rode. I didn’t stay at Pat’s to eat the fritter but rode south to Auburn Trails where I found a shady spot to eat the fritter. I know I should not ate it but it tasted so good and the sugar powered me back to Kingwood into the headwind.
Yesterday I wrote that I needed 28 miles to beat last October’s monthly total but I was wrong. I really needed 48 miles to beat the 764 miles biked last October; my memory failed me. With today’s 31.61.miles I now need 17 miles to beat last October. With 4 potential riding days that looks doable.
