Decisions, Decisions! Which Bike To Ride?
After Zwifting the previous four days today the weather warmed up to 65 degrees and I went for an outdoor bike ride. My first decision was which bike to ride. The Canyon and Lynskey both sported new power meters and I was anxious to try each one out. I chose the Lynskey R300 for today as I set out on what I call the “Atascocita – Walden – E. Lake Houston Parkway” route. The ride went 27.99 miles (I thought I rode 28.00 but the Elemnt computer must’ve rounded up).
I installed a new PowerPod V3 power meter on the Lynskey. I used the Isaac program to set up the new PowerPod but a calibration ride finalizes the setup. Carefully reading the instructions I started the ride at 1:22 PM and about 100 yards into the ride I stopped and pressed the PowerPod’s stat button. The green LED changed to yellow and as I rode the power reading started counting from 1 to 100. When it reached 50 I stopped as the instructions said and then resumed the ride. When it got to 100 I stopped again and pressed the PowerPod button which blinked green and continued the ride. The power readings began to appear on the Elemnt’s screen and I felt relieved because of my previous difficulties with the calibration ride on my previous PowerPod BLE. I think what I missed before was stopping at 100 and pushing the PowerPod’s button.
Weather during the bike ride: start 65 (81% humidity, 59.5 dew point), overcast, wind S 14 mph gusts 22 mph. Finish 65 (82% humidity, 59.7 dew point), overcast, wind SE 14 mph. With no sunshine I selected my “winter” kit: shorts, leg wamers, long sleeve thermal jersey, wind jacket, and half finger gloves. This kept me warm though at the start I felt a little chilly but once the body heat kicked in I started sweating. I delayed starting the ride while I watched the first half of the University of Cincinnati basketball game hoping it would warm up but instead the temperature went down a degree.
I saw some other cyclists along the route. Some of them are in the video but I missed at least one as I came around a sharp corner and he rode by me before I could start the GoPro camera.
Tomorrow I will ride the Canyon Endurace with the new Favero Assiomo power meter Uno pedals . Rain early in the morning but it should stop around 9 AM. I think it will be dry for a 11 AM start.
