Harris County park project connects vets with nature to reduce PTSD

For Eric Carrasco, escaping into nature helped him navigate PTSD when he came back home after five years of service in the Marine Corps in 2002.
After realizing the effects of the outdoors, Carrasco started “Operation Yellowbird,†an organization connects veterans for outdoor activities like camping, backpacking and mountain biking. The activities help Houston area veterans get a chance to break away from their struggles, he said. …

Two wheelers rather than 18 wheelers will help drive the commerce at M-K-T Heights, a mixed-use redevelopment along North Shepherd Drive at 7th Street that aims to capitalize on its setting between two hike and bike trails.

New bike lanes open on Shoal Creek Boulevard

AUSTIN, Texas — A stretch of bikeway is now open for cyclists to use on Shoal Creek Boulevard.
The two-mile path runs between Foster Lane and Shoalmont Drive. It connects to existing bike lanes from Foster Lane to U.S. 183.
The next section of bike lanes will go between Shoal Creek and 45th Street. Construction on that section is set to begin next week.
