A Taste of Spring Weather Biking to Huffman
I set out on today’s bike ride at 12:20 PM a little later than I planned (more on that below) following the “Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman” route for a total of 32.76 miles. This is the third ride on my new Lynskey R300 road bike.
Weather as I rode to Huffman: start 76 (80% humidity, 69.9 dew point), overcast, wind S 9 mph. Finish 79 (72% humidity, 69.0 dew point), overcast, wind SW 8 mph gusts 17 mph. The wind let up some for awhile and then gusts resumed. With the warmer temperature I left the jacket at home and wore shorts, long sleeve thermal jersey, and a short sleeve jersey on top. Most of the ride this kept warm but both trips over Lake Houston I got chilled as the wind cooled as it blew over the colder water. I pedaled faster to compensate but reaching the end of the causeway warmed me up. Getting the tailwind after turning onto FM 2100 from Old Atascocita Road brought relief to my legs.
I am still sorting out the gearing on the Lynskey but today I think I did better selecting the combination and pedaling around 16 to 17 mph when not biking into the headwind.
What delayed my start some was my trip to Postal Annex to mail my return of the Fabric ALM all carbon saddle. I bought it intending to put it on the Lynksey R300 but changed my mind. Since my Canyon Endurace CF SLX is a carbon bike why not put the Fabric ALM on it to keep the carbon thing going. Big problem! The seatpost and clamp on the Canyon is different from the typical seatpost. The Canyon clamp wraps the seat rails from the sides rather than clamping from the top. The Fabric ALM’s rails’ shape would not fit the seat clamp no matter which way I tried. So I decided to return it. This meant changing saddles from the Lynksey to the Canyon back and forth. This took time plus I tried to contact Koobi.com by phone to ask about the PRS Century saddle and make a call to Lynskey about a missing rubber plug for the headset.
The weather changes later tonight turning cool to cold. Zwifting looks like the biking for Wednesday and maybe Thursday.
