Tour de Zwift: Stage 5 Race – Gotham Grind Reverse
After the climbs in Stage 4 today’s race seemed almost flat but climbing still existed. We went up 8.5% inclines a couple of times over the 11.59 mile race.. I managed to keep close to the group in position 118 to 122 for most of the race. Starting at 12:13 PM Group D comprised of 228 racers of the 591 overall the groups. The race didn’t last long at 32:22.
Several years ago I rented a bike at NYC Central Park and rode most of today’s course. The bike weighed a ton and its condition begged for some maintenance but my son-in-law and I slowly rolled around the park. I remember some of the scenery during today’s race. No slow rolling today!
I signed up for ZwiftPower.com today to see what I can learn about Zwifting and to see how I compare with others. I read a blog post about Zwiftpower.com helping to spot sandbag racers, people race slow races when they should be in faster groups. Zwiftpower connects to Zwift and shows data about how various racers compare in an event. Being an option not everybody in an event will show up in Zwiftpower. Today’s race produced these results in ZwiftPower.
I circled my results at 30th among the 52 racers in Group D that use Zwiftpower. The winner of Group D finished in 28:31, about 4 minutes faster than me with an average of 3.0 w/kg. I think Group D maxes out at 2.5 w/kg so maybe the winner should have raced in Group C where he would have placed 64th. But I am not getting hung up about the sandbag issue since I use Zwift because I can’t ride outside and races provide variety.
