Problems Solved Except for Wind Chill Bike Ride to FM 1485
After experiencing several problems during yesterday’s bike ride I hope my fixes worked on today’s bike ride. I put a new battery in the cadence sensor and tightened the PowerPod in the mount. Both of those actions solved their problem.
Since I went south yesterday I chose the “Kingwood – FM 1485 – Kingwood” route for today’s bike ride. The route goes north and then back south. I rolled out of the driveway at 12:13 PM and finished at 2:40 PM. In between I enjoyed a tailwind to FM 1485 and suffered with a chilling headwind on the ride back to Kingwood. I biked 30.21 miles moving me to within 20 miles of my 300 mile goal for January.
The 15 to 17 mph wind from the SE chilled me because I chose the wrong jacket. Weather during the bike ride: start 64 (54% humidity, 47.2 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 15 mph. Finish 63 (64% humidity, 51.1 dew point), overcast, wind SE 17 mph. Adding the wind speed from pedaling into the headwind I felt cold on the segment back to Kingwood. The sleeves of the jacket let the chill penetrate and the long sleeve thermal jersey didn’t keep me warm. Maybe a short sleeve jersey over the thermal jersey would’ve helped. If the sunshine provided some warmth like yesterday maybe my kit would’ve been warmer. Also wearing half finger gloves added to the chilly feeling. Ice water in my water bottle didn’t help any. The leg warmers did their job as the bike shorts did too.
January weather is winter and complaining about the cold in SE Texas doesn’t compare to up north where I grew up. Zwifting allows me to ride almost every day no matter the weather. Sunday will be warmer and the early morning rain should be gone by the time I get home from church.
