Not Too Chilling on the Zwift Team CLS Chill ‘n’ Spin (Flat Course)
The day began with rain but by the time I returned from church the rain stopped but the temperature held at 59 degrees. I selected a Zwift ride earlier before going to church which began at 12:50 PM, the Zwift Team CLS Chill ‘n’ Spin (Flat Course) (D). This was the first time I rode a Team CLS event. As the start time approached I planned on trying streaming on Twitch.com as well as recording to upload to YouTube.com. Setting up the OBS program to stream only required a Twitch account. Checking after the ride finished 2 people watched.
As the ride began I saw 131 other Zwifters in the group and this grew to 161 later. I thought I had all of my equipment ready but around 6 minutes into the ride I opened the Wyze app to turn on the fan and the Wyze plug was offline. I jumped off the Blue Norcross AL bike and unplugged the fan and in the process turned off the power to my smart trainer. I thought I turned the power back on quick enough to not interrupt the connection, got on the bike and resumed pedaling. But a few minutes later I coasted to a stop while I pedaled away and saw the smart trainer unconnected from Zwift. Another quick jump off the bike to unplug and plug in the smart trainer and all sensors connected. By now I dropped back from 92 position to 131st position about 3 minute behind the main group. It took the rest of the ride to move up about 30 positions before I stopped the ride at 24.52 miles, about 2.5 miles short of completing the 5 laps the main group did. I stopped before going up the 8% climb near the end of the lap after riding up 4 times in the previous laps. I wanted to have time to write about the ride, shower and ready to watch the Texans vs Titans football game at 3:25 PM.
Strava recorded 3 personal records as I rode around the Innsbruck course. It looks like people created over 200 segments in Strava for this route. Strava put my max speed at 40.7 mph which must be going down the 8% climb. I don’t remember seeing that speed in the Zwift app or on the monitor. SportTracks has a problem calculating max speed from the Strava TCX file I upload to SportTracks, my max speed showed 146,700 mph.
Not sure if I will Zwift or ride outdoors on Monday with the weather turning sunny but the temperature in the low 60’s maybe.
