Wednesday’s Wind Hung Around For Thursday’s Bike Ride to Huffman
I think I used all of my thermal long sleeve jerseys on bike rides earlier this week and not washed them so I wore a regular long sleeve jersey with a short sleeve over it along with shorts. The reason for concern was the strong wind still hanging around from yesterday and the wind chill. Starting the bike ride at 11:33 AM under an overcast sky no need to count on the sun to warm things up much. The “Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman” route goes south and east into the wind until I make the left turn onto FM 2100 from Old Atascocita Road.
With today’s 34.39 miles I went over my 360 mile goal for November with a total of 374.3 miles. Adding in my virtual riding miles of 184.8 the November total stands at 559.14 miles, exceeding my 460 mile goal.
Riding east over Lake Houston the wind blowing over the water felt chilly through the long sleeve jersey and increased my need to get to the east shore. I knew the wind waited for my return trip across the water. Going east the traffic moves on my left not providing any blocking but on the west bound leg cars and truck again travel on my left but between me and the wind. Sometimes more traffic travels along with me but today the number fell and I suffered the chill.
Weather during the bike ride: 77 (75% humidity, 68.8 dew point), overcast, wind S 16 mph gusts 22 mph. Finish 77 (77% humidity, 69.2 dew point), 0vercast, wind S 15 mph 20 mph gusts.
Riding south on W. Lake Houston Parkway approaching the bridge over Ben’s Branch where the Harris County Flood Control District contractor works the greenbelt trail has been closed with a sign and the orange barrier stretched across the trail. Today the sign laid against the brick corner post and the orange barrier bunched to the left. I thought the trail was open and continued riding towards the bridge trail until at the last moment I saw an orange rope across the opening and slid my wheels stopping just in time to avoid a crash. Not sure why the sign and barrier were not in place because the other end of the bridge was still blocked. I turned around and rode under the bridge to the trail along the north bound traffic heading to the crossover south of the YMCA.
The wind fought me the entire ride and at the 2:25 PM finish it blew at 15 mph with 20 mph gusts, only slightly less than at the start.
Another cool front arrives around noon with some rain maybe on Friday so Zwifting replaces road biking since that time usually covers my biking.
2019 miles are only 38 behind 2018.
